King’s a finalist in NHS 75 photo exhibition
22 June 2023 - Congratulations to Nial Anderson, a member of the communications team at the Trust, whose photograph will be displayed at an exhibition at Fujifilm House of Photography in Covent Garden as part of NHS 75 celebrations.
The photo captures a patient – Dagmar Turner – playing a violin while undergoing brain surgery performed at King’s College Hospital by neurosurgeon Professor Keyoumars Ashkan. The photo – and Dagmar’s operation – made headlines around the world back in 2020.
Dagmar played the violin during the procedure so Professor Ashkan and his team could ensure the parts of the brain which control hand movements and co-ordination were not damaged during the operation.
Professor Ashkan said: “It is so great to see Nial’s talent recognised for capturing this moment in history. To have the opportunity to represent the face of the NHS for 75 years of untiring service to the nation is a rare and true honour.”
The image was selected as one of NHS England’s ‘NHS at 75’ photo competition, and will go on public display at an exhibition at Fujifilm House of Photography in Covent Garden from Wednesday 5 July, and will also be displayed at the NHS 75th anniversary service at Westminster Abbey. More information about the photos in the exhibitions can be found on the NHS England website.
The image is also currently on display at The Hunterian Museum of the Royal College of Surgeons.
Congratulations, Nial!
