Our maternity locations

You will receive your care at several different locations. Please check your maternity notes folder and appointment letters carefully for the location of your appointment before you attend.

Inpatient wards

  • Nightingale Birth Centre is on the fourth floor of the Golden Jubilee Wing. It has an obstetric-led labour ward and theatres, midwife-led suites with birth pools, an induction of labour bay, high dependency unit, transitional care, and theatre recovery.
  • William Gilliatt Ward is on the third floor of the Golden Jubilee Wing. If you have complications during your pregnancy you may be admitted here for closer monitoring and treatment. It is where we provide inpatient care before and after birth. After your baby is born, you are likely to stay a few nights in our postnatal ward for support with your recovery before you go home.

Outpatient clinics

  • Maternal Assessment Unit (MAU) is on the ground floor of the Fetal Medicine Research Institute, located at 16-20 Windsor Walk, SE5 8BB. If you need closer monitoring during pregnancy but do not need to be admitted to hospital, you will be cared for here. The MAU is open 8.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday. Outside these hours, please visit triage at the Nightingale Birth Centre.
  • Antenatal Clinic is on the ground floor of the Fetal Medicine Research Institute, next to the MAU. Obstetric and specialist medical clinics are held here, as well as the Immunisation Clinic which offers walk-in appointments for whooping cough and flu vaccinations in pregnancy.
  • Harris Birthright Centre is where pregnancy ultrasound scans take place. It is on the second floor of the Fetal Medicine Research Institute. The Harris Birthright Centre scanning team also see those having their antenatal care with the Princess Royal University Hospital (the PRUH).
  • The Venetian Building is on Caldecot Road. Diabetes in pregnancy outpatient clinics are held here.

Community midwives

  • The Community Midwives’ Centre is a hub for many of the community midwife teams and specialists. Midwives will see you for booking and follow-up appointments here. It is located at 45-47 Caldecot Road, London SE5 9RP.
  • The Midwives’ House is a hub for the midwife team who care for those who live outside of the King’s catchment area. Midwives will see you for booking and follow-up appointments here. It is located at 65 Coldharbour Lane, London SE5 9NS.
  • Stork on the Hill Midwifery Centre is another hub for booking and follow-up appointments with midwives. This is also where glucose tolerance testing (GTT) for diabetes in pregnancy takes place. It is located on Blanchedowne, London SE5 8HL and is approximately a 10-minute walk from the main site of King’s College Hospital.
