King’s endoscopy team receives national accreditation

13 June 2022 - The endoscopy team has passed its annual Joint Advisory Group on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (JAG) review and obtained accreditation for another year

The endoscopy department at King’s College Hospital, Camberwell, has received national recognition after retaining its Joint Advisory Group on Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (JAG) accreditation.

The JAG review is an annual review which is conducted by the Royal College of Physicians (RCP) using the JAG Global Rating Scale (GRS), a quality improvement tool for endoscopy services which is used as a blueprint for promoting high-quality endoscopy around the world.

By obtaining accreditation, the Trust’s endoscopy department is recognised as providing a high-quality service, meeting set criteria that incorporates the latest standards from national and international bodies.

This is a significant achievement from the team, who supported the wider Trust through the pandemic by redeploying 60% of its staff to critical care areas and the wards, and running a significantly reduced service throughout the pandemic.

Attainment of the JAG accreditation brings many benefits to the Trust including attracting new trainees and retaining current nursing staff, and the ability to provide nationally and internationally recognised courses which showcase best practice.

Dr Bu Hayee, Deputy Director for Endoscopy, Gastroenterology and Liver at King’s, said: “I am so proud of the team for achieving accreditation for another year. They have worked incredibly hard to ensure they passed the inspection.

“The dedication and patience of the entire endoscopy team during the last few years has ensured that standards have been maintained and quality improvement projects progressed, despite the challenges faced.”
