Proxy access for parents and carers
You can give another person access to your MyChart health record using proxy access.
A trusted person with proxy access can help you manage your care at our hospitals or in the community. They will be able to see your health information on MyChart, including your appointments, health conditions and medicines.

Giving someone proxy access
If you are over 18, you may want to give someone ongoing access to your MyChart account. For example, if a family member helps you with your health or you have a carer.
To invite someone to have proxy access, this person must also have an existing MyChart account at King’s College Hospital or Guy’s and St Thomas’. If they are a patient or have been a patient at these NHS trusts, they can sign up for their own MyChart account but must have an account before you can invite them.
To give someone else with a MyChart account at our hospitals proxy access:
- log in to MyChart
- click ‘Sharing Hub’ from the menu on the left
- click ‘Family, friends or a carer’
- click ‘Give someone ongoing access’ and click the plus button
- enter the details of the person you want to give access to
- send the invite
They should receive an invite by email to sign up as your MyChart proxy. When they’ve confirmed some details, they will be able to log in to their MyChart account and see your health record.
If the person you want to add as a proxy is not a patient with a MyChart account, you can ask a healthcare professional to set up proxy access in clinic.
Parents and carers of children and young people
For children and young people under 18, proxy access is managed by their healthcare team who will consider their needs, wishes and best interests.
Parents and guardians can request to use MyChart to manage a child or young person’s health record.
Please speak to your child’s healthcare team at their next appointment. They can give you an activation code to complete your sign up.
12 years old and younger
Children aged 12 or younger cannot have their own MyChart login.
Parents or guardians who want to use MyChart to keep up to date with their child’s care can use proxy access.
Speak to your child’s healthcare team to request proxy access to your child’s health record.
13 to 18 years old
Young people aged 13 to 18 can ask for their own MyChart login.
Parents or guardians may have proxy access to your MyChart health record until the age of 18.
Please speak to your healthcare team at your next appointment to ask for an account.
Carers or relatives of adult patients
If you support an adult patient with their healthcare, they can give you access to their MyChart account. This is called ‘proxy access’.
You must have a MyChart account to be invited to have proxy access. If you are, or were, a patient at King’s College Hospital or Guy’s and St Thomas’, you can sign up for your own MyChart account.
Once you have your MyChart account, the person you care for can use MyChart to give you proxy access by following our steps
You’ll be sent a link by email and will be asked to enter the patient’s name and date of birth. This will link the accounts.
If you are not also a patient with a MyChart account, a healthcare professional can set up proxy access in clinic.
If you care for an adult without capacity
If you are a carer for someone who lacks capacity to make decisions, or if you have lasting power of attorney, you might want to use MyChart to keep up to date with the care of the patient.
Speak to the healthcare team to ask for proxy access to a patient’s health record. They can give you an activation code.
Removing proxy access
MyChart shows your health information. It’s important that you know who has access to your information, and you’re comfortable sharing it with them.
13 to 18 years old
If you want to stop someone seeing your MyChart information, or change who has proxy access, please speak to the healthcare team looking after you. The healthcare team will decide based on your needs, wishes, and best interests.
Anyone with proxy access to your MyChart health record will be removed when you are 18. Sometimes proxy access may stay in place if there are ongoing care needs.
Over 18 years old
You can change who has proxy access to your information by logging in to MyChart.
- Log in to MyChart
- Click ‘Sharing Hub’ from the menu on the left
- Select ‘Manage proxy access’ at the bottom of the page
- Click ‘Remove’ for the person you want to stop having access
Adults without capacity
If you’re involved in the care of someone aged over 18 who lacks capacity to make decisions, or if you have lasting power of attorney, please speak to the clinical team. They can help to stop and manage proxy access.
What someone with proxy access can see
Giving someone proxy access lets them see most of your secondary care health records, and should only be used if you are completely comfortable with sharing this information.
People with proxy access will not be able to view the part of your record containing your medical, family and social history on MyChart. Proxy access will not routinely let them view information on your MyChart account about:
- sexual and reproductive health
- HIV
- termination of pregnancy (abortion)
- gender identity development services
There might also be information marked as ‘sensitive’ by your clinician, such as psychology notes, which will not be visible in MyChart at all. This means neither you or anyone with proxy access will see any information marked as sensitive.
Please be aware, some information that can be viewed by someone with proxy access, such as the name of a clinician, could risk identifying information about your health or care. This includes historical records. If you have any concerns about this, please speak to your healthcare team and take caution before granting proxy access.
Personal information that you can update on MyChart, but is hidden from people with proxy access, is your:
- gender identity
- sex assigned at birth
- sexual preference
- preferred name
