Transplant-related diabetes
What we do
We see adults who have had a kidney transplant in the last 12 months and who have diabetes. We are part of the diabetes service.
If you have had a kidney transplant, your risk of developing diabetes increases. This is due to the anti-rejection medication needed after the transplant. You may also have had diabetes before the transplant.
We help determine the type of diabetes you have. We then provide a care plan to help control your blood sugar levels.
Most people we see only need to attend our clinic in the 12 months after their transplant. Once you have stabilised your diabetes, we will create a diabetes care plan for you, and refer you back to:
- your GP
- or your local diabetes team
