PRUH’s Project SEARCH is a finalist in the Bromley SEND awards
01 November 2024 - A scheme aimed at supporting young people with learning difficulties and / or autism into the workplace has been nominated for a prestigious award.
The Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH)’s DFN Project SEARCH Programme has been shortlisted in the SEND Champion for Employment category of the Bromley SEND awards.
The DFN Project SEARCH programme, based at the PRUH, was nominated for providing supported training opportunities within a hospital setting for young adults aged 17-25 with a learning disability and / or autism. The programme, which is in its third year at the PRUH, provides real-life work experience combined with training in employability and independent living skills, to help people with learning disabilities and / or autism progress into long-term careers.
Trainees are matched to their placements through their skills, abilities and interests, and they are supported by mentors who work alongside them in each clinical and non-clinical department.
Angela Helleur, Site CEO for the PRUH and South Sites and Board Champion for Disability, said, “We are extremely proud of our DFN Project SEARCH programme, and it is a privilege to see our interns growing in confidence as a result of taking part. The programme makes a real difference to young people in our local communities, as well as bringing huge benefits to our staff and patients.”
Michael Pichamuthu, Site Director of Workforce at the PRUH and South Sites, said, “This recognition is a huge reward for all the efforts made by our DFN Project SEARCH team and our staff who have mentored and supported our interns, working in partnership with local organisations, including Bromley Council, London South East Colleges: Bromley, and Bromley Mencap.”
Winners of the Bromley SEND awards will be announced on 28 November 2024.
