NHS “virtual choir” joined by patient who had brain surgery
17 December 2020 - King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has released a Christmas single featuring a virtual choir of over 100 staff.
Singing ‘O Holy Night’, the choir is joined by several staff musicians including Consultant Neurosurgeon Professor Keyoumars Ashkan and his patient Dagmar Turner.
Dagmar played the violin while she underwent brain surgery in January this year. She is a committed violinist who plays in Isle of Wight Symphony Orchestra. Her surgeon, Prof Ashkan, has put his musical talents to work on the track, providing the piano accompaniment while Dagmar plays violin.
King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust had the busiest combined critical care service in the first wave of COVID-19, with the sickest patients and yet the best outcomes in the country.
The song is dedicated to everyone who supported King’s hospitals through this most extraordinary year, and remembering those who sadly passed away.
The single is available to stream on Amazon Music, iTunes, Spotify, and more, and the video can be viewed on the King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust YouTube channel.
