New resource to help families coping with pregnancy loss
12 March 2025 - Memory wallets will be available to bereaved parents and families at King’s

King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is taking part in a new initiative to support families who have experienced pregnancy loss or the death of a baby.
Pregnancy Loss Memory Wallets are a new practical and emotional resource designed for families in need, and have been developed with input from both families with experience of pregnancy loss and healthcare professionals.
The Wallets provide clear, compassionate information on a range of topics, including physical and emotional recovery, access to local and national support services, and support for family and friends. They also act as a signal for staff that a loss has occurred, ensuring families and patients receive sensitive, informed care.
Veronica Finn has had recent personal experience of pregnancy loss, and contributed to the design of the Wallets in her role as an expert by experience coordinator. She said: “I wanted to be a part of the Wallets because of what they stand for—giving parents a more personal and meaningful way to hold their child’s prints, rather than a brown envelope, while also providing guidance for the difficult next steps when they may feel lost. These Wallets add a personal touch to a tragic situation, offering inclusivity and comfort on the darkest days, and I feel honoured to have one for my daughter, knowing it was made with thought and care for parents like me.”
Tracey Carter, Chief Nurse and Executive Director of Midwifery at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Losing a child is something nobody should ever have to go through, but we are here to provide families with practical and emotional support when they need it most.
“Whether the loss happens in hospital, at home, in early pregnancy, or later, the Memory Wallets ensure that every family has the same clear, compassionate information and advice. They also include guidance on where to find help for physical and mental health, offering parents a reliable source of support during an extremely difficult time.”
The Pregnancy Loss Memory Wallets are funded by the South East London Local Maternity and Neonatal System, and will be available to parents and families at King’s College Hospital and Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) from March 2025.
