Biography
Mr Tarun Singhal is a Consultant Colorectal and Laparoscopic Surgeon at the Princess Royal University Hospital.
He qualified in 1995 and completed his Masters in Surgery in 2001. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) of England and Edinburgh. He has completed a Fellowship in laparoscopic colorectal surgery, peritoneal malignancy, low rectal surgery, and multivisceral resections from Basingstoke. He has also completed a Fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic and Robotic Colorectal Surgery from Portsmouth.
He has more than 20 years experience in surgery, including laparoscopic (or advanced keyhole) surgery for colon cancers, inflammatory bowel diseases, complex hernias and haemorrhoids. He also performs routine general surgery for conditions such as pilonidal disease, Rafaelo procedure and THD for haemorrhoids, fistulas, anal fissures, and gastrointestinal investigations such as gastroscopy, colonoscopy and removal of polyps.
He has a keen interest in teaching and training, and has completed the PGCert in Managing Medical Careers (KSS Deanery and Brighton and Sussex Medical School). He is a faculty member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England for various courses, including Core Skills in Laparoscopic Surgery and Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient. He completed Training the Trainer courses for Endoscopy and Laparoscopic colorectal surgery. He is a JAG Certified Trainer and regularly teaches and supervises trainees on planned and emergency laparoscopic colorectal surgery and endoscopic procedures.
He has published, and made national and international presentations on, numerous papers on the treatment of various gastrointestinal conditions. In 2018 he was awarded a King’s Commendation for his service to patients and the Trust.
