Partnership working
We work in partnerships with a range of organisations, professional bodies, system leaders and charities to develop and provide the very best services for our local communities.
We are committed to working with our partners to improve population health, tackle inequalities and deliver sustainable healthcare.
King’s Health Partners
King’s is a founding partner in south east London’s Academic Health Sciences Centres: King’s Health Partners (KHP). KHP brings together a world-leading research-led university – King’s College London – and three successful NHS Foundation Trusts: King’s College Hospital, Guy’s and St Thomas’, and South London and Maudsley.
Academic Health Sciences Centres (AHSCs) are partnerships between universities and NHS organisations. KHP brings together world-class research, teaching and clinical practice for the benefit of patients. It helps to ensure that the lessons from research are used more swiftly, effectively and systematically to improve healthcare services for people with physical and mental health problems. This is about providing a world-class service.
KHP was established in 2009 and was successfully accredited for a further five years in 2014 and again in 2020, recognising the continual success in delivering its mission. It is currently one of eight AHSCs in England.
Alongside competing on the international stage, KHP’s focus remains on providing local people with the very best that the NHS has to offer. KHP brings real and lasting benefits to the communities of south London. Local people will continue to benefit from access to world-leading healthcare experts and clinical services which are underpinned by the latest research knowledge. There will also be benefits for the local area in regeneration, education, jobs and economic growth.
If you are interested in hearing about the latest news, events and opportunities from KHP, please sign up to a fortnightly newsletter.
South East London Integrated Care System
The South East London Integrated Care System (ICS) brings together the full range of organisations responsible for publicly funded health and care services in South East London. This covers the vibrant and highly diverse boroughs of Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark.
ICS members work together to deliver better health and care services for local people. The main aims of the ICS are to improve health outcomes, tackle inequalities, enhance productivity, and support social and economic development.
Within each borough, the system works through a Local Care Partnership. These partnerships include NHS, local authority, voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations. King’s is represented across three Local Care Partnerships (LCPs) – Lambeth Together, Partnership Southwark and One Bromley.
South East London Acute Provider Collaborative
King’s is part of the South East London Acute Provider Collaborative. The South East London Acute Provider Collaborative is a partnership between King’s, Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust.
The Acute Provider Collaborative aims to improve care for patients by working more closely together, encouraging greater sharing of best practice, and embedding better planning and pooling of resources. This helps to ensure that patients with the greatest health needs get access to treatment when they need it.
An example of how the partnership works in practice is the use of operating theatres at Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup by surgical teams from King’s, Guy’s and St Thomas’ and Lewisham and Greenwich.
Our community partnerships
Our community partnerships and networks are very important to us. We are committed to co-production, and work with patient groups and representatives to ensure that our services are designed with patient experience at the centre. You can find out more about patient and public involvement at King’s and the many ways in which you can share your experience and get involved.
We also work closely with community and resident groups across Southwark, Lambeth and Bromley, and take seriously our role in the regeneration and development of our local areas.
Examples of our work in the community include part-funding a cycle storage at Denmark Hill train station in Camberwell and the publication of our Green Plan, which sets out how we will reduce the impact of our health services on the environment.
We also work in partnership with a number of charities who support us.
