Biography
Dr Cheah qualified from Cambridge University in 2000. He was awarded a PhD from King’s College London for research in insulin resistance and appetite regulation through NIHR and Diabetes UK clinical training fellowships under the supervision of Prof Stephanie Amiel, for which he won Diabetes UK Type 2 Diabetes Research Awards in 2012 and 2013. He completed specialist training in Diabetes and Endocrinology with General Internal Medicine at King’s College Hospital. He has worked at King’s College, Princess Royal University and Orpington Hospitals and with local community diabetes services as a substantive consultant diabetologist since 2015.
He is the Clinical Lead for type 1 diabetes care at King’s College Hospital, with specialist interests in diabetes technology (insulin pump therapy and continuous glucose monitoring), islet transplantation in type 1 diabetes, auto-islet transplantation after pancreatectomy for chronic pancreatitis, and whole pancreas transplantation. He joined the DAFNE (“dose adjustment for normal eating” structured patient education in type 1 diabetes) Executive Board in 2023.
