King’s Black and Black Mixed Heritage antenatal workshop
25 April 2023 - Women and expectant parents planning to have their baby with us at King’s are invited to attend the Black and Black Mixed Heritage antenatal group, a workshop to support and empower parents-to-be.
Led by King’s midwives, the group is available to parents at any stage in pregnancy to find out more about navigating and understanding the benefits of accessing maternity care, and having a healthy pregnancy.
Across the UK, Black women are 3.7 times more likely to die during pregnancy and childbirth compared with white women. Dawn Litchmore, Community Midwife at King’s, said: “Sadly we know that people from Black and Black Mixed Heritage communities can experience racism, discrimination and unconscious bias leading to poor maternal health outcomes. It’s really important to us that we give women and expectant parents from Black and Black Mixed Heritage communities the best possible care, and to help every child born at King’s have a healthy start in life.
“Our workshop covers a range of topics including antenatal education, and wellbeing and mental health. Everyone is welcome to come along to our workshop and find out more.”
