King’s Associate Director is revealed as a finalist in the British Ex Forces in Business Awards
19 May 2023 - Lieutenant Colonel Alex Saunders QARANC has been shortlisted for a national award
Lieutenant Colonel Alex Saunders QARANC, Associate Director of Nursing for Resuscitation, Simulation and Armed Forces at King’s, has been shortlisted for Reservist of the Year in the British Ex-Forces Business Awards 2023.
Alex’s career began in the army from the age of 16, where he served in the Royal Signals, before training as a nurse in 1995. He was inspired to re-join the Forces when working in a nursing home as a care assistant. He explained: “I helped care for a number of veterans, and they prompted me to join back up as a Reservist. I re-joined the Signals and then moved to a reconnaissance light cavalry unit, before qualifying as a nurse and posting to a field hospital, where I was commissioned as an Officer. I went on to serve operationally in both Iraq and Afghanistan. Currently, I am posted to Medical Branch, Regional Command in Aldershot as a Staff Officer, alongside my role as Associate Director of Nursing for Resuscitation, Simulation and Armed Forces at King’s. I’m now coming up to my 30 year anniversary as a serving Reservist in HM Forces.
“Both in my military and NHS careers, I have had the opportunity to meet some incredibly inspirational people in the UK and abroad, all striving for the same goal of caring and looking after others. It is an honour to be nominated for a British Ex-Forces in Business Award alongside so many worthy winners.”
The winners of the British Ex Forces in Business Awards will be announced on 29 June 2023.
