King’s College Hospital helipad engagement meeting
28 November 2024 - All members of the local community invited on Thursday 12 December at 5pm
Since 2016, King’s College Hospital’s helipad has supported the vital work we do, reducing the time it takes to transfer critically ill patients to resuscitation. Previously, helicopters had to land in Ruskin Park and transfer patients to King’s by road, which could take up to 25 minutes. The helipad reduces this time to 5 minutes.
Air ambulances have had permission to land at night on our helipad for four years. Recently, we have been granted permanent permission for night landings. We are now the only hospital Trust in London that has 24 hours a day, 7 days a week air ambulance cover. This reduces transfer time from the Kent coast from 2 hours to just 25 minutes. Every minute counts in a major trauma incident.
We want to continue to involve local residents in the work of our helipad and Major Trauma Centre. We have set up regular sessions to share updates and hear your views. Come along to meet the major trauma team and tell us what you think.
Our next meeting will take place on Thursday 12 December 2024, further details are below.
Date: Thursday 12 December 2024
Time: 5pm to 6.30pm
Location: MS Teams
At this session, we will:
- provide updates on the helipad’s operation since our last event
- share further insights on the helipad’s role in supporting critical care
- share information on how we have addressed feedback from the last event
- welcome your thoughts and questions
Your voice is important to us, and these events ensure that we continue to listen and respond to our local community.
