King’s launches Rainbow Badges Survey

11 April 2022 - Trust seeks feedback on LGBTQ+ inclusion

King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has launched a patient and service user survey as part of our assessment process for the NHS Rainbow Badge Phase 2 scheme.

The survey will help us build a picture from our patients and service users on how LGBTQ+ inclusive we are.

The updated (Phase 2) NHS Rainbow Badge scheme, developed in collaboration with the LGBT Foundation, Stonewall, the LGBT Consortium, Switchboard and GLADD, incorporates an assessment and accreditation model. It allows NHS Trusts across the country to demonstrate and build on their commitment to reducing barriers to healthcare for LGBTQ+ people, while evidencing the good work they have already undertaken.

There are 40 Trusts taking part, and each will receive a Bronze, Silver or Gold award, graded to reflect their current LGBTQ+ inclusion work.

In addition to the award, crucially, we will receive a comprehensive feedback report and action plan, which is designed to help Trusts achieve the next level and help facilitate meaningful change specifically designed to improve the experiences of our LGBTQ+ service users and colleagues.

We have already completed stage one of the assessment process (submitted in February 2022), which relates to how our commitment to LGBTQ+ inclusion is demonstrated through our Trust-level communications and wording in our policies.

The survey runs from 1 April to 8 June 2022. It will take just two minutes to complete. You don’t need to be a member of the LGBTQ+ community to participate – anyone can do it.
