King’s professor delivers first inaugural lecture
12 November 2024 - Congratulations to Professor Akash Deep, Director of Paediatric Intensive Care at King's, on delivering his first inaugural professorial lecture at King's College London.
During the lecture on 6 November, which was entitled ‘Emerging subspecialties in paediatric critical care, building a career and a field: critical care nephrology and hepatology’, Akash shared his journey in the field of paediatric critical care from India to the UK.
Akash reflected on the advances he has seen in the fields of critical care nephrology and hepatology over the last decade and outlined his contributions to those, including the unique multi-modal neuro-monitoring of acute liver failure, his active participation and contribution to Acute Disease Quality Initiative and use of prostacyclin as an anticoagulant in continuous renal replacement therapy.
At the end of the lecture, Akash also highlighted the role that King’s College Hospital has played in his career in achieving this academic milestone of becoming a professor.
Akash joined the Trust in 2008 as a Consultant in Paediatric Intensive Care before becoming Director of Paediatric Intensive Care. His research interests span various aspects of the management of acute kidney injury in neonates and children, extracorporeal support, liver failure in children, sepsis education and awareness and haemodialysis in septic shock.
Akash said after delivering the lecture: “This is a great honour for me and I am immensely proud to have delivered my inaugural lecture at King’s College London.
“I want to thank all my colleagues at King’s College Hospital, my mentors, and family and friends for their support throughout my career, and I look forward to my next lecture.”
