Upgraded car parking deck opens at the PRUH

A new car parking deck at the Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) was officially opened today, creating an additional 148 car parking spaces for hospital staff and patients.

Work on the single story car parking deck started in June, and cars will be able to start using the facility from Monday, 12 December.

The top deck of the facility will be for the sole use of staff with car parking permits, so freeing up spaces in the rest of the main PRUH car park for patients and visitors.

As well as providing over 148 additional parking spaces, the new facility includes enhanced security through CCTV, Automatic Number Plate recognition, with electric charging points for 40 vehicles opening in May 2023.

Jonathan Lofthouse, Site Chief Executive for PRUH and South Sites, said: “There is a real need for extra car parking on the hospital site, so we are delighted to open our new car parking deck for colleagues working at the PRUH, so freeing up extra spaces for patients and visitors in main car park in the process”.

“This project is part of our ongoing work to improve the working lives of staff based at the PRUH, as well as improving transport options for patients and visitors. We have ambitious plans for the PRUH, so the additional car parking spaces will support our plans to expand services on the site, so improving care for patients.”

The facility will become operational on Monday, 12 December, but was officially opened on Friday by Professor Clive Kay, Trust Chief Executive; Gareth Bacon, MP for Orpington; Sir Bob Neill, MP for Bromley and Chistlehurst; and Jonathan Lofthouse, Site Chief Executive for PRUH and South Sites.

Patients and visitors can continue to use the available car parking at the front of the hospital, including the drop off and collection bays. There are no changes for disabled parking: it will remain as previously, using the marked bays at the front of the PRUH, along with other non-designated spaces on the ground floor once designated bays are full.
