Vaccine volunteers help the fight against COVID-19

03 February 2021 - Retired nurse, Jane Rossi, is giving up her time to help protect local people against COVID-19

Alongside hundreds of King’s staff who are delivering the COVID-19 vaccine roll-out, local volunteers are also giving up their time to help. Jane Rossi, 65, a retired nurse who lives in Ide Hill, near Sevenoaks, explained why she wanted to be part of the roll-out: “I started volunteering at the PRUH a year ago, when COVID-19 started making the news headlines. Initially, I was a befriending volunteer. A typical day involved making sure patients had everything they needed, and keeping them company, as well as helping the staff.

“I worked as a nurse for many years before taking retirement, and over the years there’s nothing I haven’t seen – or so I thought until the pandemic came along. After supporting the hospital during the first wave, it’s been a privilege to help make sure patients and staff at the PRUH can have their vaccine as quickly and efficiently as possible.

“After so many months of uncertainty, it’s uplifting to know my role is helping to keep people safe through the COVID-19 vaccine. It’s the best way we can make sure people in our community – especially those who might be more vulnerable – have some protection against this awful virus.”
