HIV prevention study

Our Sexual Health and HIV team are recruiting people to take part in an HIV prevention study.

The study is called PURPOSE 5. It compares an investigational injection given twice a year with a daily oral pill for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).

Eligible participants will be randomly assigned to an investigational twice-a-year injection or daily oral PrEP.

Eligibility

You may be eligible to take part if you:

  • are at least 18 years of age
  • are currently not on PrEP
  • have not received a positive HIV test
  • have at least one of the following:
    • had sex with 2 or more partners without a condom in the past 6 months
    • were diagnosed with a sexually transmitted infection (STI) in the past year
    • have used post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) 2 or more times in the past year
    • had sex with a partner with HIV whose viral load is not suppressed or is not
      known in the past year
    • have engaged in sex work or transactional sex in the past year
