General neurology

What we do

The Neurology service specialises in diagnosing and treating disorders of the nervous system, including the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, and muscles.

We deliver services at King’s College Hospital, Denmark Hill, and the Princess Royal University Hospital.

King’s is the regional tertiary centre for specialist inpatient and outpatient neurosciences services for a population of over 1 million people across South East London and Kent. The department works closely with King’s Health Partners to deliver specialist teaching, education, and research.

Our large multi-disciplinary team includes over 30 consultants who provide specialist clinics. The team also includes clinical nurse specialists, who run a range of outpatient clinics, and physician associates who deliver ward-based treatment and procedures.

The service has a dedicated Neurology Ward (Charles Polkey) for the investigation and treatment of inpatients with complex neurological conditions. There is also a dedicated Neuroscience Infusion Suite and Programmed Investigation Unit (PIU) space for patients needing day case procedures, complex investigations or infusions.

We work closely with the other services in the neurosciences department (neurophysiology, neuroradiology, neuropsychology, neuropsychiatry, neurosurgery, neuropathology, neuro-rehabilitation) to deliver the very best care and treatment to all patients.
