General paediatrics

What we do

We provide a comprehensive clinical service for children local to King’s and some from further afield. We offer direct access to a wide range of specialist paediatric services so that children with more complex disorders can receive family-centred, holistic care within the one unit.

We work in a variety of areas including:

We hold six general paediatric clinics every week. In addition, there is a rapid access clinic held three times a week in the Paediatric Emergency Department, where children who need more urgent assessment can be seen by a consultant.

To make an urgent referral

Use NHS e-Referral and state that the referral is urgent.

For acutely unwell patients

GPs can discuss rapid access clinic review, ED attendance, and admission avoidance by phoning the Consultant Connect service. Each GP practice in the boroughs of Lambeth, Southwark, and Bromley has a unique phone number for Consultant Connect. If you are calling from outside these three boroughs, phone our switchboard on 020 3299 9000 and ask to speak to the paediatric short stay consultant on call. This is available Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 10pm, and Saturday, Sunday and bank (public) holidays, 8.30am to 5pm.

In emergencies

Referrers can call 020 3299 9000 and ask to speak to the on-duty paediatric consultant.
