Biography

Jemma Johns trained at University College London, qualifying in 1994 with honours in surgery. She undertook obstetric and gynaecology speciality training in the North Thames Deanery. During this time she undertook her MD thesis at UCLH and is widely published in the area of early pregnancy assessment and loss. Jemma completed her training in 2007 and has been a consultant at King’s College Hospital since. She is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at King’s College London.

Alongside her role in the Early Pregnancy and Gynaecology Assessment Unit, Jemma is the lead consultant for paediatric and adolescent gynaecology and receives referrals from all over the south east of England. She is also the lead for the care and management of women who have undergone FGM/C. 

In obstetrics, Jemma is the lead for the obstetric haematology service, working closely with the haematology teams at King’s. She runs a joint clinic with a consultant haematologist for women with sickle cell disease and other haemoglobinopathies in pregnancy. 

Jemma is an active clinical researcher, supervising several MD students, and collaborating with local and national teams on research projects, both in early pregnancy, gynaecology and obstetric haematology.
