Paediatric haematology
What we do
We investigate and treat children with general blood (haematological) problems such as anaemia, or abnormal bruising or bleeding. We also support children who attend King’s Paediatric Liver Unit and those on the Neonatal and Paediatric Neurosurgical units who may have blood problems.
In addition, our team looks after children with sickle cell anaemia and other haemoglobin (red blood cell) disorders and those being treated for cancer and leukaemia (blood cancer).

Conditions we treat
We provide a service for children with general haematological problems such as anaemia, neutropenia or thrombocytopenia, red cell disorders including haemolytic anaemias, aplastic anaemia and abnormal bruising or bleeding. We also offer haematological support and advice for children attending the Paediatric Liver Unit and those on the Neonatal and Paediatric Neurosurgical units who may also have blood disorders.
The team also looks after patients with sickle cell anaemia and other haemoglobin disorders (see Paediatric sickle cell and thalassaemia) and children being treated for malignancy (see Paediatric Oncology Shared Care Unit).
