Conditions we treat

We have a large and active interest in the pathogenesis, manifestations and management of haematological malignancies.

We have the largest bone marrow transplant programme in the UK, performing more than 160 autologous, allogeneic and volunteer-unrelated transplants per year in a dedicated unit, using conventional and cutting-edge conditioning protocols.

We are also a harvest centre for BBMR, the Anthony Nolan Trust (including cord harvest), and licensed by the MHRA for granulocyte harvesting.

Our service has various clinics that deal with secondary, tertiary and quaternary referrals for the following conditions:

• acute and chronic myeloid leukaemia
• high and low grade lymphoma
• chronic lymphocytic leukaemia
• aplastic anaemia
• paroxysmal nocturnal haemoglobinuria (PNH)
• myeloma
• myelodysplastic syndrome
• lymphoproliferative disorders
• plasma cell disorders.

We see local, regional and national referrals. Local patients are seen as new patients and have tests ordered at the unit. Tertiary referrals may come with information supplied by their referring service.

What is required before referring a patient

Please ensure relevant blood tests and other investigations are carried out before the appointment.

GPs should refer via NHS e-referral (e-RS) wherever possible.

Routine Referrals

GPs should refer via e-RS. Other referrers can contact Haematology Clinic Reception on 020 3299 5554. Include all relevant results with the referral.

For GPs: The Adult Haematology Referral Guide for GPs supports GPs in referring patients to haematology. There is also a Quick Referral Guide for GPs that summarises the key points. The guides have been developed jointly by King’s and Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust.
